SEBASTIAN HERKNER. BASK BASKETS AND BELL TABLE.

In Designers, I like, Objects on 22/05/2012 at 07:02

Sebastian Herkner, designed for MOROSO this range of objects, baskets named Basks. Inspired, when on a trip to Spain, he visited a company producing yarns with paper. He developed with Moroso and this company a special paper and technique to use in a tridimensional way and create useful objects to store things.

Even used upside down, they have a function as small side table.

BELL TABLE.

For the German company,CLASSICON, Herkner designed side tables that make us think.

We are not used to see a heavy material on top of a transparent one. This gives a troubled vision.

Our perception is tricked by the upside down use of glass and metal. Oeps…. it will brake, was my first reaction, when I saw this table.

The transparency of the glass bell makes the heavy material that is used on the top seem as floating

A real beauty.

Since some years I spent a lot of holidays in this very pretty vacation home in the hills of Ibiza. My friends Miriam and Jan are perfect hosts and we are always on the run in antiques shops and markets to find objects that are Morrocan inspired and from ethnic origine.

I show here a selection of pictures that show the atmosphere of the house.

FERNANDO CARUNCHO.

In I like on 29/01/2012 at 16:51

I was going through old HOUSE and GARDEN USA magazines, and I came across an article about a garden in spain designed by Fernando Caruncho.

I am absolutely in love with the kind of architectural and strong linear gardens done by Caruncho.

Fernando Caruncho

Fernando Caruncho is best known for his minimalistic and contemporary gardens where light is one of the key elements together with water and geometry. He was born in Madrid in 1958 and after studying philosophy at the university of Madrid and learning of the Greek method of teaching in the garden, he was motivated to study at Castillo de Batres School in Madrid where he received a degree in landscape design in 1979. The obsession of Caruncho is the control of light. In Western cultures, light is often viewed as a source of wisdom; therefore it is an element of meditation in Caruncho’s gardens.

A great number of his gardens were realised in Spain and he translates elements of Arabic and Moorish gardens in his contemporary designs.

Jaime Hayon for Bisazza.

In Designers, Furniture, I like on 04/06/2011 at 20:50

Jaime Hayon,The most sensual designer from the moment has been creating a very sexy range of furniture and objects for Bisazza, called bisazzabagno. This well known Italian company founded in 1958 is the supremo in manufacturing glass mosaic tiles. The combination of  age old techniques of Venitian glass with modern day technologies made Bisazza the world leader in their specialisation.

It is a logical step after being for half a century on walls and floors in bathrooms all over the world to feel the envy to furnish the bathrooms too. Not just making sinks and baths but actually design furniture.  Furniture that you put in a room  that will become a bathing suite, not just a bathroom.a place where you want to be and stay for hours as you can do in your living room or your kitchen. With his furniture it becomes a room where you like to live in.

What is interesting with Hayons designs is that he  is always playing with references from the past and has created a very personal ”poetical” language.
