SEBASTIAN HERKNER. BASK BASKETS AND BELL TABLE.

In Designers, I like, Objects on 22/05/2012 at 07:02

Sebastian Herkner, designed for MOROSO this range of objects, baskets named Basks. Inspired, when on a trip to Spain, he visited a company producing yarns with paper. He developed with Moroso and this company a special paper and technique to use in a tridimensional way and create useful objects to store things.

Even used upside down, they have a function as small side table.

BELL TABLE.

For the German company,CLASSICON, Herkner designed side tables that make us think.

We are not used to see a heavy material on top of a transparent one. This gives a troubled vision.

Our perception is tricked by the upside down use of glass and metal. Oeps…. it will brake, was my first reaction, when I saw this table.

The transparency of the glass bell makes the heavy material that is used on the top seem as floating

A real beauty.

I would like to show you our favourite collections that we composed the last months. A variety of collected items. To create a collection, we start from an idea or just from one particular piece and then chasing around to find more of them. It will often take a long time before we consider that a collection is ready.

Our top ten.

Collection of African Headrests.

Collection of Damascus Trays.

Collection of Sea Shells in zinc tub.

Part of our extensive collection of Beswick Copperware.

Collection of four Hat forms with plaster sculpture by Henry Sausse.

A beautiful collection of globes from the 1930s made by Chad Valley.

Part of our collection of Faux Wood Painted Beswick Vases from the 1950s.

Collection of Fulham Pottery in Pale Grey. 1930s.

Part of our collection of decorative hand mirrors.

Those Carpet Beaters would look fabulous in a small hallway or in a pantry or even in a small dining room. Funny and unexpected.

DECOR CHANGE.

In Collecting, Decoration, I like, Objects on 09/05/2012 at 06:48

The same wall, but a different display of objects. The first display is our collections of vintage bamboo mirrors, Most of them came from England and were made in the 1950.s

The second display is a collections of north African Tea Trays in copper. Some were meant to put on foldable legs and be used as tables, but definitely all were used to put the little coloured glasses filled with mint tea.

Have a nice day and to keep you warm, nothing as good as a wonderful hot tea or a delicious strong coffee.

Greetings from cold and rainy Belgium.

CUFFS.

METTLE.Gladiator Cuff.

I’ve always thought that a woman’s basic wardrobe should have white boyfriend shirts(immaculate white, yes) some skinny jeans, loads of T-shirts and some beautifully cut navy blazers and of course some simple little black dresses.

Having these basics, it is now the fun to accessorise with jewellery, A must is also a good bag and good shoes. Of course shoes where you feel comfortable in, but which are also stylish.

In my post of yesterday I showed you some coloured jewellery that have a real summer look. I will show you in this post cuffs that I like.

KRISTEN ELSPETH. Large cuff.

CORNELIA WEBB.Echo of Deco Bangle in wood.

CHARLES ALBERT, Large agate cuff

MAISON MARTIN MARGIELA. Mordoré arm cuffs.

MAISON MARTIN MARGIELA. Wallpaper print cuff.

SOO IHN KIM. Jinx cuff

THE SUBLIME MONIES ARMBAND.

VERDURA CHANEL MALTESE CROSS CUFFS.

CHANEL 18 CARAT GOLD PERSANE CUFF.

YVES SAINT LAURENT POPPY CUFF.

THE OOH SO CHIC CUFF FROM HERMES.CLASSIC STATEMENT.

Only wear one cuff at the time, but a large one or one on each arm. A bit the same as a bracelet, if the bracelet is a bit chunky, you only wear one, but if the bracelets are thin then you are allowed to mix different ones. Preferably on the wrist you put your watch on.

On the contrary, bangles, too much is never enough.

I know that these objects can be quite heavy, but let me tell you one thing if your feet are feeling comfy you will forget about the weight on your arms and ladies, keep this in mind,

YOU WILL LOOK FABULOUS.

TO WOMEN.

Mix and match, but as a good chef who knows the job, there is a limit. And the limit is good taste. And if you can’t really describe good taste at least the eye will discern it and the brain will distinct it. The new  maitre mot you read in every magazine is: put together, mix and match, everything goes together, Well no! Not every ratatouille is a good one. There is a certain amount of good ingredients you can put in your receipt and one of the ingredients that always will work in a house is wicker.

hanging chair from the 1960s

You will never have enough of this material in your home, it is always chic. Be it baskets from St. Tropez or Ibiza for your daily shopping who are stacked together in a corner of your hallway or baskets you put on your desk with decoupages from magazines or articles to read, or wicker footstools in your living room together with more elaborate furniture or coffee tables made by Habitat in the 1960s or a hanging chair with a big cushion in cotton. A wicker basket for stacking wood near the chimney, boxes in wicker in your dressing room to keep paraphernalia or a chair

that looks as a sculpture in your bedroom to throw your négligé before a wonderful night of sleep after a last glimpse in the wicker mirror.

P.S. : Look in the wicker mirror when you wake up in the morning and I’m sure you will have a nice day, anyway a good start.

BAGS.

In Decoration, Objects on 27/12/2011 at 21:48

I love bags in any kind of shapes, for woman and man, the casual, chic or the one from the market in wicker, but great was my surprise when…….

One day a couple of weeks ago John and I went out for a shopping stroll and we found these amazing 1950s style bags that I immediately baptised the ” chicken wire Kelly”

It is a set of three and if you want you could use them for going to restaurant or just to put on top of a console table  in your entrance hall with the appropriate bouquet of flowers dried,of course. Un understatement.

Or on a bed of ivy with your Easter eggs and filled with yellow  daffodils would be a good begin for the next festive season.

One has to stay alert.

Happy ending and a warm begin of 2012.

CHAD VALLEY GLOBES.

In I like, Objects on 27/12/2011 at 15:34

very beautiful globes in soft tones

This is the third collection of  globes made in the 1930′s and beginning of the 1940′s that we were able to collect and to present in a simple way on metal bookstands. We think that the bookstands give the objects an ethereal quasi floating way.The globes are made of tin and are very light and in pretty good condition.

A boys bedroom dream……

THE EYE CATCHER OF THE FAIR

This chandelier that I made with the help(90%) of Nina Marie, a very talented young girl, daughter of my best friend Regine, was the eye catcher on our stand. I made it with teddy bears and other animals stuffed with small Christmas lamps and hang it in the completely black booth. Black carpet, black ceiling, black walls, 13metres long tablets,Louis XVI commode I had it all paint in the same mat black paint. A friend of me made specially for our booth a sofa/double chaise longue in an almost black fabric.I needed some space to hide our coats and other stuff , so I bought a large sheet of black shiny pond foil and covered a large round table with it. Absolutely not practical, but very funny and chic and cheap.

some of the collections of objects

sculpture by Fons Schobbers

My Friend Delphine Boel showed some beautiful pieces of the BLABLA serie. Also did Ineke Otte, with her absolutely gorgeous bijoux and Fons Schobbers with 2 amazing sculptures in polyester.

John showed a vast assemblage of different style collections and we had a really amazing time. explaining to young daddies how to make a chandelier as well as changing every day our jewellery to promote Ineke, mostly we had little rats in rubber running up the sleeves of our blazer or i wore an armband in plastic grass. see picrure

It was so funny to see the amazing look in childrens eyes and hear mothers and grandmothers say, hooo we have so many teddies at home, should do something with it. Many Christmas tree will be shaped with teddy bears and surely small chandeliers will be made inspired on this one.

Time to start again working on my blog. It has been a nice and uncomplicated summer, holiday in Ibiza and I spend a lot of time at the seaside in Knokke Le Zoute and voila we are back and already half september. And back into business.

I started to take my new concept in practice and began to ”HOUSEWHISPER”  in some beautiful places throughout Flanders. Some friends were moving from one house to another and they asked me to choose the furniture and hang their collection of art and also to place their collections of objects. I went to their previous homes to make a choice of furniture, paintings and objets d’arts and then worked for 2 days alone with a helping hand to hang the paintings and place the furniture. I like to work alone and get the rhythm of the house listen to my favourite programs on the radio and not being disturbed not even by the telephone.

Here I Show you some quick pictures that I took with my Iphone, Bon not of the best quality but still good enough to give an idea.

The decoration of the house was done by my great friend Isabelle Reynders.

The beginning.

Mise en place.

In preparation, walls above fire place need to be painted in a soft shade.

Books need to be added yet.

Books will come soon.

Collection of mono chromatic Chinese porcelain.

Mix of styles in the dining room.

I still need a lamp above the table.

Work by Panamarenko.

I immediately found this object beautiful and interesting but I first couldn’t imagine what it could be.I first saw it in magazines without any size references. It made me think about the potteries that I would make in the arts academy when I was a young boy. The clay going in any direction between my fingers, wet and slippery and forming those perfect horizontal lines. Most of the time making strange shapes that would not be the ones the teacher would like.

In fact it is a sitting object, the kind of seat that you can put in any house and where it will always be in its place and function well.

This item is designed by Thomas Heatherwick and is made of rotational-moulded polyethylene.

IT IS AMAZING.I love people with imagination and this one is right on top.
