GAE AULENTI.

In Architects, Designers, I like, Lighting on 31/01/2012 at 10:13

One of my preferred designers of the 20th century is Gae Aulenti. She is the creator of the PIPISTRELLO lamp edited by Martinelli Luce.

Pipistrello.

Gae Aulenti is the most famous Italian woman designer with international recognition from the second half of the twentieth century  .After studying architecture in Venice and Milan she went working as a graphic designer for the magazine Casabella . This from 1955 to 1965.

In the meantime she opened her studio in Milan and worked for Olivetti, Tecno,Knoll and Zanotta, between others. Her international fame came when she designed the Musee d’Orsay, located in the old train station of the Gare d’Orsay in Paris.

I will show you designs of her that are iconic and that I really love.

April stool for Zanotta. Designed in 1964.

Ruspa lamp for Martinelli designed in 1968.

Mezzopileo for Artemide. 1972

The one I prefer. the Patroclo lamp for Artemide. Designed in 1975.

Mezzoracolo for Artemide. 1968.

Aulenti was a very successful furniture designer and one of her most known pieces is this table for Fontana Arte.

Tavolo con ruoto for Fontana Arte. 1980.

I love this very chic coffee table that she designed for Knoll International in 1964.

Thank you for reading.

I LIKE THESE NEW LAMPS.

In Designers, I like, Lighting on 06/01/2012 at 22:39

I really like this new kind of lighting that combines giving light and for example charging phones or the possibility to highlight a small object that you particularly like.

this one named the PIANI is by the brothers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec for http://www.flos

picture from magazine

The other one I also like is the D’E light from Philippe Starck also for FLOS. It combines light and charging iPhone, iPad or IPod

The third one I like is also a table lamp designed by Daphna Isaacs and Laurens Manders. They are part of a serie of three table pieces made out of porcelain and oak and are edited by www.cappellini.it

I didn’t find the documentation on their site that is why I took this picture from the magazine MAISON de MARIE CLAIRE.

I like: Bitossi lamps

In Colours, I like, Lighting, Objects on 08/06/2011 at 11:12

I like this pair of original 1960 lamp bases made by the Italian company of Bitossi . They are hand made and hand painted in their famous Rimini blue. I had them mounted with a long extendable stem in plated silver and a  flat shade in blue silk.

Les fines (the thin ones) created by Goodbyeedison

I fell in love with these extremely elegant lighting objects from the moment I saw them. For me this  is the kind of object that works as a statement and can stand on his own. Of course put this lamp on top of an antique chest of drawers or in front of a 17th century painting and it will give a gorgeous effect. As well that it can be beautiful in a pared down interior . Lighting is in evolution so fast and after the horrible low energy bulbs we look forward to more usage of the LED and the magic light it produces.
