BRAM BOO.

In Designers, I like on 23/05/2012 at 10:48

I like the twist that Bram Boo gives to the furniture he creates. most of them have a traditional look at first glimpse, but by adding elements in a disturbing way or an unexpected way, he creates visual confronting pieces.

some examples of the furniture I like.

OVERDOSE DESK for BULO.

BACKSTAGE CUPBOARD.

TABLE ETCETERA for TRIBU.

BOOBOO CHAIR for FELD.

OASIS SOFA for FELD.

The large arm rests are meant to be used as a desk to work with a laptop for example.

ARCHIDUC BLUE TRAY for SERAX.

SEBASTIAN HERKNER. BASK BASKETS AND BELL TABLE.

In Designers, I like, Objects on 22/05/2012 at 07:02

Sebastian Herkner, designed for MOROSO this range of objects, baskets named Basks. Inspired, when on a trip to Spain, he visited a company producing yarns with paper. He developed with Moroso and this company a special paper and technique to use in a tridimensional way and create useful objects to store things.

Even used upside down, they have a function as small side table.

BELL TABLE.

For the German company,CLASSICON, Herkner designed side tables that make us think.

We are not used to see a heavy material on top of a transparent one. This gives a troubled vision.

Our perception is tricked by the upside down use of glass and metal. Oeps…. it will brake, was my first reaction, when I saw this table.

The transparency of the glass bell makes the heavy material that is used on the top seem as floating

A real beauty.

BARBER OSGERBY.

In I like, Furniture, Designers on 13/05/2012 at 13:21

B&B ITALIA has edited a very beautiful table designed by Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby. The English duo has been inspired by the round pebbles in Japanese gardens. They called the table ”TOBI -ISHI”.

The top and the 2 bases are made of different materials. The top is made from wood and the base ,from polyutherane. The finish, although is made of a cement grout to create a kind of leather effect.

For me this is an example of timeless design that will look astonishing in different styles of homes and interiors.

I hope that a dining table will be edited too. Not really as for dining, but to put in an entrance hall or in a living room with objects on display.

Happy Mother day to all mamas of the world.

CUFFS.

METTLE.Gladiator Cuff.

I’ve always thought that a woman’s basic wardrobe should have white boyfriend shirts(immaculate white, yes) some skinny jeans, loads of T-shirts and some beautifully cut navy blazers and of course some simple little black dresses.

Having these basics, it is now the fun to accessorise with jewellery, A must is also a good bag and good shoes. Of course shoes where you feel comfortable in, but which are also stylish.

In my post of yesterday I showed you some coloured jewellery that have a real summer look. I will show you in this post cuffs that I like.

KRISTEN ELSPETH. Large cuff.

CORNELIA WEBB.Echo of Deco Bangle in wood.

CHARLES ALBERT, Large agate cuff

MAISON MARTIN MARGIELA. Mordoré arm cuffs.

MAISON MARTIN MARGIELA. Wallpaper print cuff.

SOO IHN KIM. Jinx cuff

THE SUBLIME MONIES ARMBAND.

VERDURA CHANEL MALTESE CROSS CUFFS.

CHANEL 18 CARAT GOLD PERSANE CUFF.

YVES SAINT LAURENT POPPY CUFF.

THE OOH SO CHIC CUFF FROM HERMES.CLASSIC STATEMENT.

Only wear one cuff at the time, but a large one or one on each arm. A bit the same as a bracelet, if the bracelet is a bit chunky, you only wear one, but if the bracelets are thin then you are allowed to mix different ones. Preferably on the wrist you put your watch on.

On the contrary, bangles, too much is never enough.

I know that these objects can be quite heavy, but let me tell you one thing if your feet are feeling comfy you will forget about the weight on your arms and ladies, keep this in mind,

YOU WILL LOOK FABULOUS.

TO WOMEN.

DIANE VON FURSTENBERG.

In Designers, I like on 06/05/2012 at 18:26

I’ve always he’d a great admiration for the taste of Diane von Furstenberg. In all her houses she has the magic to mix styles from different periods and provenances . Always mixing quality furniture and objects. Looking to these pictures ,one can see that she is a citizen of the world and that she has an eye for unexpected combinations.

GAE AULENTI.

In Architects, Designers, I like, Lighting on 31/01/2012 at 10:13

One of my preferred designers of the 20th century is Gae Aulenti. She is the creator of the PIPISTRELLO lamp edited by Martinelli Luce.

Pipistrello.

Gae Aulenti is the most famous Italian woman designer with international recognition from the second half of the twentieth century  .After studying architecture in Venice and Milan she went working as a graphic designer for the magazine Casabella . This from 1955 to 1965.

In the meantime she opened her studio in Milan and worked for Olivetti, Tecno,Knoll and Zanotta, between others. Her international fame came when she designed the Musee d’Orsay, located in the old train station of the Gare d’Orsay in Paris.

English: Orsay Museum, Paris, main.

I will show you designs of her that are iconic and that I really love.

April stool for Zanotta. Designed in 1964.

Ruspa lamp for Martinelli designed in 1968.

Mezzopileo for Artemide. 1972

The one I prefer. the Patroclo lamp for Artemide. Designed in 1975.

Mezzoracolo for Artemide. 1968.

Aulenti was a very successful furniture designer and one of her most known pieces is this table for Fontana Arte.

Tavolo con ruoto for Fontana Arte. 1980.

I love this very chic coffee table that she designed for Knoll International in 1964.

Thank you for reading.

I LIKE THESE NEW LAMPS.

In Designers, I like, Lighting on 06/01/2012 at 22:39

I really like this new kind of lighting that combines giving light and for example charging phones or the possibility to highlight a small object that you particularly like.

this one named the PIANI is by the brothers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec for http://www.flos

picture from magazine

The other one I also like is the D’E light from Philippe Starck also for FLOS. It combines light and charging iPhone, iPad or IPod

image from magazine

The third one I like is also a table lamp designed by Daphna Isaacs and Laurens Manders. They are part of a serie of three table pieces made out of porcelain and oak and are edited by www.cappellini.it

I didn’t find the documentation on their site that is why I took this picture from the magazine MAISON de MARIE CLAIRE.

CHAIRS

In Designers, Furniture, I like on 12/12/2011 at 15:26

Before doing the exhibition about chairs, I met Geert Behaegel, the owner of the only factory of wooden chairs in Belgium. Called ”DE ZETEL”. They produce chairs for restaurants, cafes and hotels and Geert had the most wonderful idea to ask Belgian designers to create chairs in wood that would have a design potential. And indeed what I got to see amazed me and made me again realise that in our small country we have great talents. Geert has the talent to imagine a new product and the willingness to look forward and diversify. And the talent of our designers.  We immediately had a good contact and still have and I felt very lucky to show his chairs between the likes of Eames, Panton and Jacobsen.

Geert has created with his different designers a line of chairs, completely au gout du jour. from contemporary colourful to  an interpretation of Provencal classic and from a driftwood recycled look to a chic real new kitchen chair.

Please have a look at the pictures and I am sure that you will enjoy and also see what I mean.

other colours on the shelf.

I am a firm believer that, we as Belgian should use the goods produced in our country, I really mean, made in Belgium. We can help our economy. We can help our planet and we can be good to the people surrounding us. I became a firm believer that we have to go for quality and pay more, instead of going for quantity for a lesser price  and the world will benefit from this. All little bits make a big whole and all the bits we can add will make a bigger whole in a short period of time.

I will promote Belgian goods and artists in Belgium the coming years, because it is worth doing this and I am proud of what is on offer in our small country.

Belgian people should be more aware of what Belgium has to offer and be very proud of it too.

I LIKE: SJOERD VROONLAND.

In Designers, Fairs and Musea, Furniture, I like on 01/10/2011 at 20:49

The bistrot chair revisited.

One of the most talented young designers in the Netherlands and even in Europe is Sjoerd Vroonland. His newest collection is called ” REVISED CRAFT” For this collection he deconstructed 19th and 20th century classic chairs and reinvented them in new materials and used new techniques. I think that the idea to play with the existing and deconstruct, re-use the specificities of the product and use new materials and create new manufacturing techniques to create the same and yet so different, is a stroke of genius.

Since Eero Saarinen worked on the Tulip chair, the ultimate chair was born and in my eyes the TULIP CHAIR had never an equivalent in style, novelty, chic, usefulness, design, lightness, timelessness.

Very often designers try too hard to invent something new, wich is often, only achieved with new materials. Sjoerd Vroonland uses not only new materials but has also a poetic approach on design. This is making him a stand out of the crowd. Warm, human design.

BRAVO.

I'll have one for in my bathroom.

I think this is the ultimate restaurant chair, the chair that stylish people will put in any place in their homes and use.I would use the chair to hang my things on coming home, I would use them in my childrens bedroom, a bathroom, my dressing room to hang a multitude of bags and put a pile of scarves on the seat. and NO it will not fall over as the seat is reinforced and made heavy as counter balance.
